Motorcycle accident fractured femur
Client overview
Our client was aged 67 and had ridden motorcycles all of his life. He had recently retired and was looking forward to spending more time taking many of the trips that he had planned, but had not had time to undertake.
Accident circumstances
On a Sunday leisure ride he was progressing along an urban road making his way to the countryside where he had arranged to meet up with some other members of the club that he was involved in.
A young car driver pulled out of a side road at speed, and did not even see our client. He was struck at speed and knocked sideways across the road. Fortunately, there was no traffic moving in the opposite direction.
Our client sustained multiple injuries including a fractured left femur, dislocation of his right shoulder, a displaced fracture of the clavicle and contusions to the lumbar and thoracic area of the back.
He was immediately taken to hospital under sedation where he remained for 11 days. As a result of his injuries he underwent surgery to place screws and pins in his hip.
How we helped
Whils in hospital our rehabilitation team began to work with NHS professionals to ensure a full needs assessment was undertaken and that additional private rehabilitation sessions were scheduled.
We provided immediate financial assistance in the form of interim payments, and ensured that his wife was fully compensated for her part in assisting with the care regime.
We also arranged for the purchase of a new motorcycle to replace the motorcycle he was riding at the time of the accident. Replacement helmets and leathers were also obtained.
